Māpua Ferry
THE VITAL LINK IN TASMAN’S GREAT TASTE TRAIL
Built to accommodate cyclists and foot passengers, the ferry is only a ten minute trip from Māpua to Rabbit Island and back again. There are also plenty of cruising options available and the ferry can be hired for private functions.
A perfect day out is a trip to Rabbit Island. Whether you are a walker, jogger or cyclist, Rabbit Island has it all. A quick 10 minute ferry ride from Māpua Wharf transfers you to a scenic wonderland. The island is covered in pine plantations and owned by the Tasman District Council. The unspoilt 13km tidal beach is great for swimming, and very popular for picnics. Tables and barbecues are all provided as well as changing rooms and toilets.
Hire bikes from Kiwi Journeys on the Māpua Wharf and explore Rabbit Island and beyond including Wineries and Craft Breweries. This is a must do when visiting the region!
